about
I started writing “Mariinsky Park” while we were living in Kyiv during the 2014 Ukrainian Revolution. We were under a sort of lockdown then too, so it felt like the right time to finish this as a song of love and hope during hard times. I had the help of some very talented friends and my wife, Daria, who added the backing vocals. Mstyslav's photo definitely captures the atmosphere of those times. I really appreciate the contributions from this great team working remotely!
They say that all the guns are gone from Mariinsky Park
And we could fall in love again in Mariinsky Park
We’re living on a tight rope wire from day to day
And I can see the distant smoke rising through the haze
The chestnuts are falling down as the shadows rise
Blackbirds in the rain thunder in the skies
We’re living on a tight rope wire from day to day
And I can see the distant smoke rising through the haze
Rising through the haze, rising through the haze today
Dreaming of an island in the sea
Dreaming of an island in the sea
They say that all the guns are gone from Mariinsky Park
And we can go for walks again, kisses in the dark
We’re living on a tight rope wire from day to day
And I can see the distant smoke rising through the haze
Rising through the haze, rising through the haze
Rising through the haze, rising through the haze today
They say the revolution’s past in Mariinsky Park
The winter sun is rising now in Mariinsky Park
Only time for silence now on the fallen snow
Candlelight along our way follows the midnight glow
